Environmental Expressionism
The Environmental Expressionism Movement utilises the arts to convey or express the conceptual content of the environment, or in particular, relevant issues concerning the environment paying particular emphasis regarding the natural world. This being the conceptual basis for the work, some of the issues may include concerns regarding;
• The ‘Balance’ in the natural World • Sustainability • Conservation
The basis for the movement is to provide, create and therefore enhance a greater understanding and awareness through the arts. Environmental Within the definition of ‘Environmental’ the work should contain and conveys the environment as a central core theme and thus ‘tap’ into the current or future concerns regarding environmental issues. Therefore, in turn, the work will be current and relevant to a particular time and place. As the conceptual content of the work plays a major role within the overall artwork a strong narrative regarding said content should be paramount. Expressionism The broad meaning of expressionism can be defined in three ways;
1. The expressing of an idea/concept and thus creating and or encouraging dialogue. 2. The mark making should convey a sense of the makers’ signature. In other words the artist’s style should be present in the work. 3. The work should be expressive in its own intrinsic right.
History Environmental Expressionism is an art movement of the 21st Century. Founded by contemporary Australian artist Peter Biram, the primary artists are;

Peter Biram states,
"The rationale behind starting Environmental Expressionism was out of a need for a collective voice expressing concerns over environmental issues that are confronting humanity at present. In the past there have been art movements formed as a platform for instigating dialogue. I feel that this movement strengthens the voice of individual artists expressing their concerns as separate entities.”
Fields of View – environmental expressionism exhibition Exhibition Rationale
Fields of View is a thought provoking exhibition that presents a variety of perspectives and perceptions about the environment we live in as seen through the eyes, hearts and minds of five passionate Australian artists. The theme ‘Fields of View’ broadly encompasses the artists’ views on nature, environmental & ecological issues, and forest management and even the energy and essence of life on a molecular level.
Fields of View is a twenty-first century account of the artists expressing various viewpoints, techniques and styles, which mutually represent one theme; The environment. The five artists present five alternate perspectives: • Expressive energy at a molecular level • Metaphysical and spiritual themes • Mans interaction with the land • Global resources crisis • Forest degradation and regeneration

Kerrie Warren
Kerries abstract pieces will convey expressive energy, the energy of life itself, positive and negative forces acting as magnets literally and metaphorically.
Leonie Ryan
Leonies cubistic media installations will draw from metaphysical & spiritual philosophy and relate to the essence of life.
Peter Biram
Abstract Expressionist Peter Biram will explore mans interaction with the environment expressing the balance and boundaries between traditional and non traditional land ownership and usage
Werner Theinert
Through his digital photographic compositions Werner aims to highlight the global resource crisis and the human impact of dwindling water and energy supplies, global warming, population growth, and unsustainable food production.
Ursula Theinert
Ursula will represent the hidden issues associated with forest regeneration, examining the dichotomy between managed forests and environmental harm.
The artists have embraced the concept of environmental expressionism, sharing their individual visions, philosophies, questions and raw emotion in a travelling exhibition.
