If I remember correctly, the main developer (Leocid) had partnered with another programmer, and they started to develop the game in Renpy. The second programmer eventually bailed or something; I'm not sure exactly what happened. But for the last update, Leocid ported the game over to RPGmaker, and he'll be the sole developer from here on out. All of the above is likely why updates are being released so slowly.
I like the characters too. Some of the best in these sorts of games. If Leocid could just stay focused and produce regular updates, I'd bet he'd be much more popular.
